Having a baby is one of the most significant life events a family faces. If you're enrolled in New York Medicaid, you may be entitled to far more support than you realize.

1. Free Home-Delivered Meals (HRSN Program)

Under the NYHER 1115 Medicaid Waiver, eligible postpartum women can receive 21 free home-delivered meals per week for up to 12 months after delivery. Freshly cooked, delivered twice a week — this is one of the least-known and most impactful benefits available.

2. WIC (Women, Infants & Children)

WIC provides supplemental nutrition benefits — including food vouchers, infant formula, and breastfeeding support — for income-eligible women and children up to age 5. WIC and the HRSN meal program can be used simultaneously.

3. Transportation Assistance

Medicaid covers transportation to and from medical appointments — including postpartum checkups, pediatric visits, and specialist care. Contact your health plan for covered transportation options.

4. Postpartum Mental Health Support

Medicaid covers mental health services including therapy and counseling for postpartum depression and anxiety. Ask your OB or midwife for a referral, or contact your health plan for covered providers.

5. Additional Services Through United Hands

Through Orivia Care's partnership with United Hands, enrolled clients may also access housing assistance, utilities support, transportation coordination, job training, budget counseling, and wellness services — at no cost.
